Catia's daily blog

"I'm Catia Gomes, Portuguese and living in Glasgow. I was thinking if I should start saying how I am but actually, I think is more interesting and fun if I say what I do and then you try to guess or ask me more things.

At the moment, I'm working as Account Manager for Samsung in Bellcom. Why did I choose this job? Because I like to talk, build good relationships, I'm very ambitious, and more then anything, I love new challenges.

That is why I feel very bored if I work in a job with no goals to achieve…

Talking about challenges, my biggest challenge was to leave Portugal where I have my family and friends. Leaving my comfort zone to come and live alone and by myself in a country completely different in many ways.

So far, I won more then I lost…I have good friends from many nationalities that I made here in Scotland, I'm also taking the advantage of living here to study so, I'm taking a second degree in the University and, the most important of all, I'm working in Bellcom.

Where I also made friends, I work in something that I really like and, we all have opportunities to show our best and grow.

Living abroad is really cool, I'm here for 1.5 year and I can't get enough.

Everyday I discover something new, and I also learn a lot from colleagues from different nationalities- Scandinavians, Italians, French, Spanish, Germans, and British.

There is so much to say about it…but I will leave it to another opportunity..."

I'm from Lisbon and I'm going there for holidays soon.
The places you know are great but, there is much more to see in Portugal...and if you go between March and October get some protection for the Sun.
I'm enjoying living here, and more I travel around Scotland, more I enjoy it :) So far I went to Inverness, Aberdeen (grey Aberdeen…), Fort Williams, Thurso, and Edinburgh...in general Scotland is so Green and Beautiful!
Quando fores a Portugal avisa para te dizer os melhores lugares para explorar...
Eu tenho Cuidado aqui...e tu, quem es?

i have no idea what that last bit says.lol. My Portuguses is rubbish.(sorry) I did travel to Lisbon but it was just for the day and the train journey was a nightmare. Are you going back for christmas? how long will you be home for and do you have a big family? Aberdeen is always grey no matter when you go there, pity you did not go to Skye when you were up that way, the stars are so clear at night its amazing. You should try travelling the west coast of Scotland and places like Arran and Rothesay (Isle of Bute) my home town. i still have a house back there near the beach and it is great to go back and walk the dog on the beach, chill and get away from everything. Have you seen any sun since you have been in Scotland? There is a nice Portuguese/Italian in Clarkston called Giotto`s if you are really missing home. I will just say bye this time in case you write in Portuguese again. x: )

Yes, I'm going to Portugal for Christmas(only one week). I miss a lot my (big family) family and friends...
I know, that I still have a lot of nice places in Scotland to see but now, I will only go there from March till August from next year because, in the other months the days are very short and when I would arrived at the destinations it would be already night (like happened last winter in our friends trip lol).
I would try your restaurant recommendation, hope it is good...by the way, one of the things I miss more from home is the food, that is why I cook every day at home delicious Portuguese dishes...
Last time, I told you in Portuguese that next time that you go to Portugal, I can recommend you some nice places to visit.
Do you mind if I ask you if you already work with us? Take care
